California or Bust, Day 1 | MA to NY

I suppose I should finally get around to blogging about our big trip. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m a HORRIBLE blogger. I’m trying to get better though, so that’s got to count for something, right?

It shouldn’t come as any big surprise to anyone to know that we got a later start than I had intended. After days of packing and cleaning the old house, it may have been a little unrealistic to think we were going to get out of anywhere by o’dark-thirty. There was some impatience (me), and some grumpiness (also me), and then came the tearful goodbyes. My mama made the trip with us, but my dad stayed behind. Not easy on any of us.

Our big push, for the first day, was Niagara Falls. The last time I was there, was with my grandparents. It was 4am, and I was 9. I figured that, there really wasn’t going to be another good time to take MY kiddos, so I booked the room the week before we left. The hotel’s website promised it was “closest to the falls.” It was, but we still had to drive a short distance to park and see any actual Falls. Thankfully, the cold and rain that we had been driving through all day cleared up, and it ended up being quite lovely.

Needless to say, I didn’t cram my tripod into some of the last available space in what rapidly became a VERY small car, so the slower shutter shots weren’t as spectacular as the could’ve been, but you know what? I’m happy. It was, quite literally, breathtaking. I’m also a little jealous that Canada gets a ferris wheel.
